When stories become mirrors: Twisted Tales visits Manor Gardens and Sodwana Bay

26 January – 2 February 2026 | Durban & Sodwana, South Africa

Once upon a time — not in some distant land but right at the cradle of humankind, South Africa — stories began to breathe again.

From 26 January to 2 February 2026, the storytellers of Twisted Tales will travel along sunlit roads and sandy shores to bring their creative workshops to Manor Gardens Primary School in Durban and Sodwana Bay Primary School in Sodwana.

Twisted Tales believes — as we all once did when we first fell in love with a story — that tales are more than words. They are hearts speaking, questions unfolding, and children finding themselves in new and brave ways.

In these workshops, stories don’t just live on the page — they come alive in the voices of the children themselves. Every child becomes a storyteller, an illustrator, a dreamer, and a thought-leader in their own unfolding tale.

Across joyful mornings and reflective afternoons, the learners will gather in circles of colour and conversation. Together, they will explore re-imagined worlds — where heroes look different from what we expect and kindness has strength more powerful than magic. Through games, drawing, sound-making, and collective creation, the children will weave their own ideas into the fabric of the Twisted Tales universe.

During the workshops, familiar fairy tales will open new doors — teaching not just language and craft, but empathy, belonging, and courage. Here, students will discover that every story they make carries a reflection of their own spark: fierce, curious, and wonderfully unique.

In these workshops, we are reminded that a story well told doesn’t just entertain — it invites us to see one another more clearly, to listen more kindly, and to imagine futures where every child’s voice finds a place at the table.

And so the tale continues — weaving its way through Durban and Sodwana — welcoming every child who wishes to dream, create, and belong.
